One Month Update

I can’t believe Abigail is almost a month old!  The time has gone so fast.  She seems to change a little every day!  She’s eating like a horse these days.  We had a doctor’s appointment this week and she was 9 lbs 6 oz (now that was fully dressed so a few of those ounces are from clothes and diaper, but she’s still over 9 lbs).  She’s about 21 1/2 inches long.  I keep joking that she’s going to soon pass Aaron and myself up soon if she doesn’t slow down!  She’s already holding her head up very well.  She’s focusing on faces now and able to track slow moving objects.

It’s so true…no books or magazine can prepare you for raising a  child.  I’m learning new things every day.  We get very little sleep, we very rarely get to sit down and have dinner together and talk without having to get up and soothe the baby for feed her.  Yet, dispite all of the change and chaos I wouldn’t trade it for the world.  I didn’t know I had this much love to give.  There’s a cute saying that says “my baby fills the part of my heart that I didn’t know was missing”…how true that is.

Since our last blog we have had lots of firsts for Abigail.  We travelled to Pennsylvania last weekend to visit with family while Aaron went to National Guard drill.  We spent a few nights at Aaron’s parents’ house and Abigail and I spent a night at my parents’ house.  She got to meet her Aunt Nicole and Uncle Jason as well as Aunt Amy, Uncle Robert, Emma, Matthew and Zack and Aunt Lisa.  She also got to meet her Great Grandma (or GG as she wants to be called) Fox as well as several neighbors and family friends.  It was a nice trip and a little break for Aaron and myself.

Well I am trying to get some lunch together while Abigail naps and bit and she’s beginning to stir a bit, so I better get moving.  I will try to update everyone again soon.  Until next time, take care.

Week 2

Well, here we are into week two already!  I can’t believe it!  Abigail has been such a fantastic baby!  We had our one week check up last week and everything is as it should be.  She was 7 lbs 8 oz. and 19 3/4 inches long.  The doctor said everything looks great!

We had a little rough spot this weekend, but after 2 days and lots of tears (from both baby and mommy) I think we have things figured out and everything has been running smoothly ever since.

Abigail’s grandma and pappy Fox were here this weekend to help, it was really nice to have them here to give us a little (but much needed) break at times.

We actually got out of the house today (which I don’t know if it mattered to Abigail but it sure was a treat for me) and went to Beachwood so I could get my paperwork for my medical leave dropped off and everyone at work could meet Abigail.  Then we went to walmart.

We got Abigail’s social security card in the mail today so she officially exists now!  Woohoo!!!

In case you were wondering we still haven’t figured out how we want to spell Abby (or Abbey), which is why I am using Abigail so often.  We are calling her Abby (or Abbey) but just haven’t decided how we want to spell it.  I will keep you all posted on that one :)

Well I think that’s all for now, my parents are napping in the living room with the baby and Aaron is working on the mashed potatoes for dinner so I think I’m going to go help him now.  We will get some more pictures posted soon and I will let you all know how our 2 week appointment goes.  Love to all.

She’s finally here!

Posted by theburkles on March 4, 2008

Well our little one has finally arrived!  Abigail Rose was born at 1702 on March 1st.  She weighed 8 lbs 2.6 oz and was 19 1/4 in long.  She is absolutely beautiful!  He bilirubin count was a little high on Sunday (at her 24 hour check) so we had to put her under the lights and and in a bili-blanket for the night.  That was extremely hard on me.  Of course all of the nurses and doctors say “lots of babies are Jaundice” and all of the books and literature say 60% of babies are Jaundice…but they aren’t my babies.  This one was and she was sick and I couldn’t fix it.  BUT the next day her levels didn’t go up and being another day older she dropped down into the low risk range and was able to come home with us!

Our first night home was a little rough on all of us.  Abigail wouldn’t eat, she was fussy, she was gassy, she would only sleep if we held her…like a said a little rough.  Of course my horomones are all over the place the past few days so I was bawling like a baby all evening.  We called the birth center to ask if we should be concerned that she wouldn’t eat and they advised us to just ride it out and let her lead us.  Abigail and I spent the night on the recliner last night and Aaron came down a few times throughout the night to check on us.  There was no point in all of us staying up all night, and I needed to keep trying to feed her so he slept last night and then he watched her this morning while I got a few hours of much needed sleep.

Here are some pictures of her home coming yesterday.

Today she is happy as can be.  She has slept most of the day, been up to eat 4 times already today, leaving us lovely dirty diapers to clean up (which we are happy about cause it means she’s eating and getting that bilirubin out of her system).

She’s so perfect.  Aaron and I can’t get over how absolutely perfect she is.   We can’t keep our eyes off of her.  We’re both scared to death about this parenting thing!  You can read every book under the sun that tells you what to expect and how to handle it and all of this and that but until you bring your newborn home you have no idea!  We’re all learning together though.  Pour Aaron has had an upset stomach since we brought her home…nerves of course.

Well, Abigail is sleeping now so I’m going to get some lunch and rest my eyes while I can.  We will keep you all posted with blogs and pictures.

 Love,

The Burkles
